This is an annual event that has been held since 2012 and affirmed its position as a leading conference, contributing a lot of valuable information, solutions and experiences to the overall development of retail banking in Vietnam.

On January 15, 2024, the State Bank of Vietnam issued directive 01/CT-NHNN 2024, outlining key tasks for the banking sector in 2024. The directive emphasizes the digital transformation process with the goal of facilitating safe and efficient access to banking services for individuals and businesses. According to data from the State Bank of Vietnam, cashless payment activities continue to achieve positive results. As of the end of 2023, the number of individual payment accounts reached over 182.88 million, an increase of 21.8% compared to the same period in 2022. In January 2024, cashless payment transactions increased by 63.3% in volume and 41.45% in value compared to the same period in 2023. Among these, transactions through internet channels increased by 57.85% in volume and 32.43% in value, while transactions through mobile phones increased by 68.54% in volume and 41.12% in value. This demonstrates the increasingly popular trend of shifting from cash payments to cashless payments. Many core banking services have been fully digitized (savings deposits, term deposits, opening and using payment accounts, opening bank cards, e-wallets, money transfers, etc.). Many Vietnamese banks have a digital transaction rate of over 90%. In addition to digital transformation, banks are also focusing heavily on green banking with various activities to invest in sustainable development, protect the environment, and contribute to society. According to the report of the State Bank of Vietnam, outstanding green credit reached over VND 564,000 billion, accounting for about 4.4% of total outstanding loans in the whole economy.

The government’s policy of applying technology to the financial sector, especially to promote cashless payments, with the goal of having 80% of adults have bank accounts by 2025, has had a significant impact on the development of the fintech market. Analysts say that 93% of domestic venture capital investments are directed towards the e-wallet and cryptocurrency segment, the second fastest growing in the Asian region, after Singapore, and is expected to reach USD 18 billion by 2024 with high competition.
