Vietnam Banks Association

Vietnam Banks Association (VNBA) was established under Decision No. 247/TTg, May 14 th , 1994 of the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Decision 131 / TCCP, October 5 th , 1994 of the Minister, Head of the Government Personnel Organization (now the Ministry of Home Affairs) recognizing the Charter of Vietnam Banks Association; Decision No. 43/2003/QD-BNV on August 1 st , 2003 in which the Minister of Home Affairs ratified the Charter (amended and supplemented) of VNBA.

Vietnam Banks Association is a voluntary professional organization of Vietnamese credit organizations and operates under the principles of voluntariness, self-governance and self- responsibility in all aspects; gather and encourage members to cooperate and support each other in business activities; representative, protect the lawful rights and eligible benefits of each member. VNBA also acts as a bridge between members and State authorities in order to stabilize and effectively, safely develop the Vietnamese credit organizations’ system, thereby contributing to the implementation of monetary policy, promoting socio-economic development.

As of March 31, 2012, Vietnam Banks Association consisted of 53 members, including 6 state- owned banks and organizations (4 State-owned commercial banks in the process of equitization), 34 Joint stock commercial banks, 2 joint-venture banks and 11 finance companies.
