Dr. Vu Viet Ngoan used to hold the position of Chairman of the National Financial Supervisory Commission.

In the early 1990s, he studied and received a Master's degree in peace movement management from Bocconi University (Milano, Italy).

After that, he returned home and held the position of Deputy Director of Transaction Office of Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank).

In 1996, he held the position of Deputy General Director of Vietcombank.

In 2000, he held the position of General Director of Vietcombank.

After 7 years as the General Director of Vietcombank, he holds the position of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Economic Committee and a member of the 13th National Assembly of Vietnam. After that, he assumed the role of Chairman of the National Financial Supervisory Commission.

On July 28, 2017, the Economic Advisory Group of the Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc was established under Decision 1120/QD-TTg, he was appointed as the Team Leader (15 members). The group is responsible for advising the Prime Minister on economic development issues.

In April 2019, Dr. Vu Viet Ngoan retired according to the regime. Since 2019, Dr. Vu Viet Ngoan has become a lecturer and manager of Hong Bang University. In addition, he also holds the position of CEO of Viet Lotus Corporation.
